What is an ABA number/routing number?

An ABA number (American Bankers Association number also known as routing number or routing transfer number), also known as a routing number, is a 9-digit code used to identify a financial institution in a transaction. It is used for routing electronic payments such as direct deposits, wire transfers, and check processing.

An ABA number is used for wires and electronic automatic clearing house (ACH) transactions such as electronic funds transfer, direct deposit, direct payment of consumer bills, e-checks, and tax payments, among others. Your ABA is not always the same as the routing number printed on your bank checks, so please contact your bank for the appropriate ABA number.
