Things to Do in Lake Worth Beach: Downtown, the Beach and the Arts Scene for New Residents

October 1, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

A resident's guide to downtown Lake Worth Beach, the beach and pier, the lagoon, city events and the arts scene, plus which historic neighborhoods sit closest to each.

Most things to do in Lake Worth Beach happen within a short bike ride of each other, which is a big part of why buyers look here. The city sits between West Palm Beach and Lantana, with a walkable downtown on Lake and Lucerne Avenues, a public beach and pier across the bridge, and a calendar of free city events. This guide is written for new and future residents. It covers the beach, downtown, the arts, parks on the lagoon and the yearly events, and it notes which neighborhoods sit closest to each.

Key takeaways

  • Beach parking at the city lots runs $3.50 an hour on weekdays and $4.00 an hour on weekends. Residents can get 20% off through the ParkMobile app.
  • Eligible residents can buy a year-round beach parking permit for $65 plus tax. Permits run May 1 to April 30 and cover 60 reserved spaces.
  • The 2027 Street Painting Festival is set for February 27 and 28 downtown, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday night bonfires at the beach run on select dates from November through February.
  • The city of Lake Worth Beach and the unincorporated Lake Worth mailing area are different places. Check the address before you assume city services apply.

Things to do in Lake Worth Beach at the beach and pier

The city's oceanfront park sits on the barrier island, just over the bridge from downtown. It includes the historic 1920s Casino Building, the beach, and the Lake Worth Beach Pier, which the city calls one of the top attractions in the Palm Beaches. The Casino Building also has shops, places to eat and a ballroom used for weddings and events, according to the city's beach and pier page.

For residents, the beach is part of daily life rather than a day trip. Many people walk the pier at sunrise, swim before work, or bring the kids down after school. The pier is also a well-known fishing spot.

Beach parking rates and resident discounts

Parking is the first thing new residents ask about. According to the city's parking rates page, the beach lots and Old Bridge Park cost $3.50 an hour on weekdays and $4.00 an hour on weekends. Meanwhile, the Bohemian Parking Garage charges $2.50 an hour on levels 1 and 2.

There are two ways for residents to save. First, the city sells a year-round beach permit for $65 plus tax. It runs from May 1 to April 30 and gives access to 60 permit spaces. Permits are limited to residents in ZIP code 33460 and a small part of 33461, so check the eligibility map first.

Second, residents can sign up for the resident beach parking discount. It takes 20% off when you pay through the ParkMobile app in the beach zones. However, the discount does not apply at the meter, and you must reapply each year with fresh proof of residency.

Things to do in downtown Lake Worth Beach

Downtown runs along Lake Avenue and Lucerne Avenue, between Dixie Highway and Federal Highway. It is compact, which makes it easy to walk. You will find local restaurants, bars, coffee shops, galleries and small stores, most of them independent. The area is part of the Old Town Commercial District, one of the city's local historic districts.

A typical week for a downtown resident might include coffee on Lake Avenue, dinner with friends, and a show or live music on the weekend. Because the streets are short and the blocks are small, many people leave the car at home.

The Lake Worth Playhouse

The Lake Worth Playhouse sits at 713 Lake Avenue. It opened in 1924 as the Oakley Theatre, showing silent films, and today it is a nonprofit community theater. According to the playhouse's history page, it is the oldest building on the register of the Art Deco Society of Palm Beach County. The playhouse stages a full season of plays and musicals, so check its schedule after you move in.

Cultural Plaza and Sunset on the Avenue

The Cultural Plaza downtown hosts several city events each year. For example, the city's Sunset on the Avenue series runs on select evenings at 7 p.m. The 2026 to 2027 dates are January 16, March 5, April 17, May 7, June 5 and August 20. The Tree Lighting also takes place there on November 30.

The arts scene and other things to do in Lake Worth Beach

Art is a big part of the city's identity. Murals cover many downtown walls, and galleries and artist studios are spread through the area. As a result, the city draws artists and creative workers who like the walkable streets and older homes.

The biggest arts event of the year is the Lake Worth Beach Street Painting Festival. During the festival, hundreds of artists turn Lake and Lucerne Avenues into an outdoor gallery of chalk art. It is free to attend. For 2027, the city lists the festival on Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Outdoor things to do in Lake Worth Beach: parks and the lagoon

The west side of the bridge faces the Lake Worth Lagoon, and several parks line the water. Bryant Park, on the lagoon near downtown, hosts most of the city's outdoor events. It also has open lawn and space to walk along the water. Many families use it for picnics and the city's holiday events.

Close to downtown, Palm Beach County manages the Snook Islands Natural Area. It is a restored wetland in the lagoon with a boardwalk, a fishing pier and a kayak launch. It is a good place to see wading birds, mangroves and fish close to home.

Golf on the Intracoastal

The city-owned Lake Worth Beach Golf Club sits along the Intracoastal Waterway. The course dates back to the 1920s and is open to the public on a daily fee basis. So you do not need a club membership to play.

Yearly events and things to do in Lake Worth Beach

The city posts a full event list each fall. The 2026 to 2027 schedule includes these events:

  • Little Scream Truck-or-Treat on Friday, October 30 at 6 p.m. in Bryant Park.
  • Veterans Day Celebration on Wednesday, November 11 at 5 p.m. in Bryant Park.
  • Tree Lighting on Monday, November 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cultural Plaza.
  • Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 5 at 6 p.m. downtown.
  • Beach bonfires at 6 p.m. on select Fridays: November 6 and 20, December 4 and 18, January 8 and 22, and February 5 and 19.
  • Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 27 at 10 a.m. in Bryant Park.
  • Fourth of July Celebration on Sunday, July 4 at 6 p.m. in Bryant Park.

Dates can change, so check the city's website before you go. Most of these events are free, and many neighbors simply walk or bike over, which saves the hassle of event parking.

Which neighborhoods sit closest to the fun?

Lake Worth Beach has several historic districts, and most of them sit within walking or biking distance of downtown. The city's historic districts page lists College Park, Old Lucerne, Northeast Lucerne, Southeast Lucerne, South Palm Park and the Old Town Commercial District.

  • Old Lucerne runs north of Lake Avenue along streets such as North Lakeside Drive. It sits close to downtown and the bridge.
  • College Park lies farther north, with mostly single-family homes. The city says it grew mainly from 1925 to 1928 and from 1945 to 1949. It is close to the golf course and the lagoon.
  • South Palm Park covers a residential area near Bryant Park and the Intracoastal, a short ride from the bridge.
  • Northeast and Southeast Lucerne sit close to downtown, on either side of the main avenues.

Homes in these areas range from small cottages and bungalows to Mediterranean Revival houses. Some sit in historic districts, which means exterior changes may need city review. Ask about that before you plan a renovation.
