Where Does Jeff Bezos Live in Florida? Inside His Indian Creek Compound

September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

Jeff Bezos lives on Indian Creek Island in Miami-Dade County, where reports say he bought three neighboring waterfront homes in 2023 and 2024 for about $237 million combined. He announced the move from Seattle in November 2023. Here is what was reported and what homes near the island cost.

Where does Jeff Bezos live? The Amazon founder lives on Indian Creek Island, a private village in Biscayne Bay in Miami-Dade County. Between August 2023 and May 2024 he bought three waterfront homes there, side by side, for a reported total of about $237 million. In November 2023 he told the public he was leaving Seattle for Miami after nearly 30 years. Here is what reporting says about the island, the three homes, and what a house near him costs today.

Key takeaways

  • Indian Creek Island, Miami-Dade County: a gated island village of about 40 homes with its own golf course and police force.
  • Reported prices: $68 million in August 2023, $79 million for the house next door in October 2023, and $87 million to $90 million for a third home in 2024.
  • Reported plan: live in the third house while the first two lots are rebuilt as one compound.
  • Market near him: the island itself has no active listings on our MLS feed, and the closest mainland comparison is Bal Harbour, with a median asking price near $2.7 million.

Where does Jeff Bezos live in Florida?

Indian Creek is a small island village off Surfside, north of Miami Beach. It covers about 300 acres, and most of that is a private golf course. Roughly 40 homes ring the outside edge, each with water frontage on Biscayne Bay. A single guarded bridge connects it to the mainland, and the village runs its own police department. The press calls it the Billionaire Bunker. Owners past and present include Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and Carl Icahn.

Bezos arrived in 2023. Fortune and Robb Report reported that he paid $68 million in August 2023 for a three-bedroom home on the bay side of the island. The deal was off-market. Two months later he bought the house next door for $79 million, again without a public listing. You can read about the island on our Indian Creek page and see the wider county on our Miami-Dade County page.

Inside the reported Indian Creek compound

The first home, at $68 million, was the smaller of the pair. Reports described it as a three-bedroom, three-bath house from the 1960s on a large bayfront lot. The second, at $79 million, was bigger and sat directly beside it. Together the two lots give him a long run of water frontage on one side of the island. Robb Report and Gulf News said the plan was to combine the two lots and build one new compound.

Then in 2024 he bought a third house on the island. Robb Report reported the price as $90 million, while later accounts based on records put it at $87 million. Either way, the reported purpose was a place to live while the first two lots go through demolition and construction. Add the three together and the total lands between $234 million and $237 million, which is why so many outlets use the $237 million figure. Pure Equity does not publish private addresses, so we name the island only.

Off-market deals are the norm here, and it is worth knowing how they work. A buyer's broker approaches an owner directly, often through the island's small circle of agents, and the price never appears on the MLS. The sale shows up later in county records, which is how reporters caught each of the Bezos purchases. So a home on Indian Creek can change hands with no listing photos, no open house and no asking price. That also means public size and bedroom counts come from old records rather than a fresh listing, and they can be out of date.

Why Jeff Bezos chose Miami

He gave his own reasons. In an Instagram post on November 1, 2023, Bezos said he was leaving Seattle to be closer to his parents, who had recently moved to Florida. He also said Miami sits closer to Cape Canaveral, where his rocket company Blue Origin launches. And he noted that he grew up partly in Miami and graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School in 1982, so the move was a return.

He called it an emotional decision and said Seattle would always have a piece of his heart. CNN and the Seattle Times both carried the post. What he did not say was anything about taxes, though many commentators pointed out that Florida has no state income tax and Washington had just started taxing capital gains. That is context, not a stated reason.

Where else does Jeff Bezos live?

Indian Creek is now the primary home by his own account. Before 2023 his main base was a lakefront compound in Medina, outside Seattle, near the Amazon campus. Reports over the years have also tied him to a large estate in Beverly Hills, a former museum building in the Kalorama section of Washington, D.C., and ranch land in West Texas where Blue Origin tests rockets. He has not said he sold any of them. So the honest picture is one main home in Florida and several other properties he still uses.

The Medina compound is the one most tied to his old life. He bought there in the late 1990s, as Amazon was taking off, and expanded it over the years with neighboring lots. Bill Gates lives in the same town. Bezos did not say in his 2023 post whether he would keep the Washington property, and no sale has been reported since. Blue Origin, meanwhile, keeps its headquarters in Kent, south of Seattle, while its main launch site is in Florida. That split explains why Miami works as a base: the rockets fly from the Space Coast, about three hours north of Indian Creek by car.

What homes near Jeff Bezos cost

You cannot easily buy on Indian Creek. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 shows zero active listings on the island, and the few sales that happen are usually private. Forbes reported that a neighboring lot sold for more than $100 million in 2025, which shows where the private market sits. For a public comparison, look across the bridge. Bal Harbour has about 155 active listings and a median asking price near $2.7 million. Surfside, at the foot of the island bridge, has about 129 listings and a median near $1.1 million.

Farther south, Miami Beach has about 2,506 active listings with a median near $650,000, and its own guard-gated islands like Fisher Island and the Sunset Islands. Homes there average about 161 days on market. For waterfront estates with the same kind of bay frontage, see our waterfront homes hub and our luxury homes across South Florida. No. It is its own municipality, the Village of Indian Creek, with its own government and police. It sits in Biscayne Bay just west of Surfside and north of Miami Beach.
