Jupiter vs. Palm Beach Gardens: Which North County Hometown Fits You?

October 1, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens sit side by side but feel different day to day. Compare prices, beach and boating access, golf and shopping, schools and commute before you choose.

Jupiter vs Palm Beach Gardens is one of the most common choices for buyers moving to north Palm Beach County, and the two towns sit side by side. They share an airport, a school district and a stretch of I-95. Yet daily life feels different in each one. Jupiter is built around the inlet, the beaches and the river. Palm Beach Gardens is built around golf, shopping and a central spot in the county. This guide compares them on clear criteria, so you can pick the one that fits how you actually live.

Key takeaways

  • Median list prices are close: $859,495 in Jupiter and $899,000 in Palm Beach Gardens, per Pure Equity's MLS data as of October 1, 2026.
  • Jupiter costs more per square foot ($498 vs $419), so the same budget often buys a bit less space there.
  • Jupiter has its own ocean beaches and the Jupiter Inlet. Palm Beach Gardens has no beach inside the city, though several are a short drive away.
  • Palm Beach Gardens is home to PGA National Resort and The Gardens Mall, and it sits closer to West Palm Beach.
  • Both are in the School District of Palm Beach County, so check the exact school zone for any home you like.

Jupiter vs Palm Beach Gardens at a glance

Here is a quick side-by-side using Pure Equity's MLS data as of October 1, 2026. These figures cover active residential listings, with condos and houses mixed. Days on market is the average time current listings have been for sale.

  • Median list price: Jupiter $859,495; Palm Beach Gardens $899,000
  • Median price per square foot: Jupiter $498; Palm Beach Gardens $419
  • Active listings: Jupiter 766; Palm Beach Gardens 799
  • Average days on market (active): Jupiter 118; Palm Beach Gardens 110
  • Median asking rent: Jupiter $4,200; Palm Beach Gardens $3,700

For context, Miami Realtors reports that the median sale price for single-family homes across Palm Beach County was $650,000 in August 2026. So both towns sit well above the county as a whole.

Home prices and what your budget buys

At first glance the two medians look almost the same. However, the price per square foot tells a different story. In Jupiter, you pay more for each foot of space. In Palm Beach Gardens, the same money often stretches to a larger home or lot.

Why the gap? Part of it is water. Jupiter has more homes on or near the ocean, the inlet and the Loxahatchee River, and waterfront homes push the per-foot number up. Palm Beach Gardens, by contrast, has more inland golf and gated communities with larger floor plans.

Both towns offer a wide range. You will find condos and townhomes, older single-family neighborhoods, and luxury estates in each. So compare homes of the same type and age, not just the city medians. Our Jupiter market page and Palm Beach Gardens market page show current listings by type.

Beach access: Jupiter vs Palm Beach Gardens

This is the clearest difference. Jupiter has its own public beach parks, including Jupiter Beach Park, Carlin Park, Dubois Park and Ocean Cay Park. Many Jupiter residents can bike or make a short drive to the sand.

Palm Beach Gardens has no ocean beach inside the city. Still, residents are not far from one. John D. MacArthur Beach State Park and Ocean Reef Park are nearby, and Juno Beach is a short drive north.

So if a daily beach walk is a must, Jupiter usually wins. If you go to the beach on weekends, Palm Beach Gardens can work just as well.

Boating and the water

Boaters often lean toward Jupiter. The Jupiter Inlet opens to the Atlantic, and the Loxahatchee River and Intracoastal Waterway wind through town. Waterfront homes with docks are a big part of the Jupiter market.

Palm Beach Gardens has some waterfront homes along the Intracoastal and on canals. However, it has fewer of them, and the inland golf communities make up much more of the market.

If you plan to keep a boat at home, ask about bridge clearance, water depth and the time to open ocean before you fall for a house.

Golf, shopping and dining

Palm Beach Gardens is the golf side of this match. It is home to PGA National Resort, which hosts the Cognizant Classic on the PGA Tour. The city also has many private golf communities.

Shopping is another strength. The Gardens Mall is a large regional mall with more than 160 shops. In addition, Downtown Palm Beach Gardens and PGA Commons add restaurants and stores, and there is a weekly GreenMarket.

Jupiter has golf as well, plus its own dining hubs. Harbourside Place has shops, restaurants and an outdoor amphitheater. Downtown Abacoa offers shops and restaurants near the ballpark. The town also has the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.

Parks, culture and things to do in Jupiter

Jupiter leans toward outdoor life. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is a local landmark you can climb. Riverbend Park offers miles of trails. Jonathan Dickinson State Park is just north of town.

Also, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Abacoa is the spring training home of both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Marlins. For baseball fans, that is a real perk each February and March.

Commute: Jupiter vs Palm Beach Gardens

Palm Beach Gardens sits closer to West Palm Beach, the county seat and the main office hub. So for someone who drives south to work every day, the Gardens often means a shorter trip.

Both towns have access to I-95 and Florida's Turnpike. Both are also a reasonable drive to Palm Beach International Airport. Rather than trust a general estimate, drive your own route at rush hour from each town.

Work location matters both ways. Jupiter has its own large employers, including Jupiter Medical Center and the research institutes on Florida Atlantic University's Jupiter campus. If you work in Jupiter, living there removes the commute.

Schools in Jupiter vs Palm Beach Gardens

Both towns are in the School District of Palm Beach County. As a result, the school a home is zoned for depends on its address, not just its city. Two homes in the same town can feed into different schools.

The best approach is to check the district's boundary tools for each home you are considering. Also ask about school choice and magnet programs, which can open options beyond your zoned school. Boundaries can change, so confirm before you sign a contract.

Ownership costs in Jupiter vs Palm Beach Gardens

The list price is only part of the monthly bill. Three other costs can swing the math between two homes that cost about the same.

First, property taxes. Each town sets its own millage, and the county, the school board and special districts add theirs. So the rate on a Jupiter home and a Palm Beach Gardens home will not match. Also, a home you buy is reassessed at market value the year after the sale, so the seller's tax bill is not a guide to yours. The Palm Beach County Property Appraiser has a tax estimator you can use for any address.

Second, insurance. Homes near the ocean, the inlet or the river may carry higher wind and flood costs. Check each home on FEMA's flood map and ask for quotes before you write an offer, not after.

Third, association fees. Many gated and golf communities in both towns charge HOA dues, and some require a club membership on top. Those fees can change your monthly budget a lot, so ask for the full fee schedule early.

New construction and growth

Both towns are mostly built out near the coast. However, Palm Beach Gardens has a major new master-planned community to the west. Avenir is adding thousands of new homes along with parks and preserve land. If you want a brand-new home in this part of the county, our guide to living in Avenir covers the details.

In Jupiter, new homes are more often infill or small enclaves. That can mean fewer choices, but also neighborhoods that are already settled.

Who tends to prefer each town

People choose for many reasons, so treat these as patterns, not rules.

  • Jupiter often fits buyers who want the beach, boating, fishing, paddling and a strong outdoor routine, and who are fine paying more per square foot for it.
  • Palm Beach Gardens often fits buyers who want golf, a big mall and dining nearby, a shorter drive to West Palm Beach, and a bit more space for the money.

Plenty of people would be happy in either. In that case, let a specific home decide. Tour both towns on the same weekend and note how each drive and each errand feels.
