Where Does Vanilla Ice Live in Florida? Inside His Wellington Base

September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

Vanilla Ice has called Wellington home for two decades and built a second career flipping houses across Palm Beach County. Here is what is reported about his own home, the TV flips, his newer St. Augustine purchases, and what Wellington homes sell for now.

Where does Vanilla Ice live? The rapper, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, has been based in Wellington, Florida, for more than 20 years. Wellington is the equestrian village in western Palm Beach County, and it is where he filmed most of his home renovation show. His own long-time house there sold in 2020, and reporting since then has not named a new primary home. So this post covers what is on record: the Wellington house he owned, the flips, and where he has bought since.

Key takeaways

  • Wellington, Palm Beach County: his home base since the mid-2000s, and the setting for most of The Vanilla Ice Project on DIY Network.
  • The house he owned: bought in early 2005 for about $716,000, five bedrooms, 4,165 square feet, with a saltwater pool.
  • Sold in 2020: he transferred it to his former wife in 2019, and it sold in December 2020 for roughly $770,000 to $800,000.
  • Newer purchases: two homes near St. Augustine in 2023, one to flip and one he said he would keep.

Where does Vanilla Ice live in Florida?

For most of his adult life the answer has been Wellington. Money magazine described him in 2019 as based in Wellington, in Palm Beach County. In 2014 the Wellington Chamber of Commerce named him its Outstanding Citizen of the Year. CBS News Miami noted at the time that he had lived in the village for more than a decade. The award cited his local charity work and the show he filmed there.

Wellington is not a beach town. It sits about 15 miles inland from Palm Beach and is best known for the Winter Equestrian Festival and its polo grounds. But it also has thousands of ordinary suburban homes on quiet cul-de-sacs, and that is the part of the village Van Winkle knows best. Most of the houses he bought and sold there were regular family homes, not horse farms.

Pure Equity does not publish private addresses. This post names the village and, where reporting did, the general area of Palm Beach County. If you want to see how the equestrian side of the village works, our Palm Beach Polo page covers the best-known community.

Inside the reported Wellington home

Orlando Weekly, citing property records, reported that Van Winkle bought his Wellington house in early 2005 for $716,695. The single-family home has 4,165 square feet, five bedrooms and six bathrooms. Its features included a saltwater pool, an outdoor shower, several covered and open patios, and fruit trees on the lot. It is the house viewers saw in his Wellington home tour videos.

The ownership changed in October 2019. Records showed he transferred the house to his then wife, Laura Van Winkle, for a nominal $10. By December 2020 it was on the market with a pending offer of $800,000. The listing agent was his daughter, Dusti Van Winkle. A later report put the closed sale at $770,000. So the family held it for about 15 years and came out modestly ahead of the 2005 price.

What that means for the headline question is simple. The one Wellington home tied to him by public records is no longer his. He has said in interviews that he owns rental properties around Palm Beach County. But no report we reviewed names any of them as his residence.

The Vanilla Ice Project and the Wellington flips

The show is the reason his name comes up in real estate at all. It premiered on DIY Network in 2010 and ran for nine seasons and 107 episodes, according to Money. His first project was a foreclosed 7,000-square-foot house in Wellington. According to The Real Deal in May 2010, the home had been worth about $2.4 million before its owners stripped it. He bid $420,000 for it at auction.

That formula repeated for years: buy a distressed house in Palm Beach County, renovate it on camera, and sell. He told Money the strategy was to look for distressed properties, tax liens and homes that were hard to find online. He also said he made $300,000 to $400,000 on each of his earliest properties, most of which he bought in the 1990s and barely touched. Local reporting has tied later show projects to Lake Worth as well as Wellington.

Why Vanilla Ice chose Wellington

He has never framed the choice as a lifestyle statement. Wellington offered what a full-time flipper needs. It had a deep supply of mid-priced houses and a steady flow of foreclosures after 2008. It was also close to West Palm Beach without island prices. Wellington also gave him a base where his family could live normally. The Chamber of Commerce award in 2014 suggests the village saw him as a local, not a celebrity passing through.

There is a practical point here for anyone thinking about investing in the area. Wellington's housing stock is largely 1980s to 2000s construction, so the renovation opportunities he built a show around still exist. The difference is price. Foreclosure bargains like the $420,000 mansion of 2010 are rare now. The median asking price in the village is well above $900,000.

Where else does Vanilla Ice live?

He has owned homes far from Wellington. Money reported that he owned a 14-bedroom house on Star Island in Miami Beach for 11 years before selling it. He also told Fox Business he had homes in Los Angeles, Utah and Dallas during his 1990s peak. Later he flipped a house in Texas. None of those is described as a current residence.

The most recent purchases on record are on the coast near St. Augustine. The Palm Beach Post reported in 2023 that he bought two homes on Rattlesnake Island, just south of St. Augustine Beach. One was a 1,763-square-foot fixer-upper for $620,000, bought to renovate. The other was a larger three-bedroom home of more than 2,000 square feet for $840,000, which he said he planned to keep. St. Augustine is on the Atlantic coast north of Daytona, well outside the counties Pure Equity serves.

What homes near Vanilla Ice cost

Wellington is no longer the bargain it was when he started flipping. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 shows about 544 active listings in Wellington. The median asking price is near $925,000, and homes average roughly 117 days on market. That median blends ordinary suburban homes with horse farms, so a five-bedroom house like his old one would sit below it. Estates in the equestrian communities sit far above it.

For comparison, West Palm Beach shows about 2,200 active listings with a median near $310,000. Buyers who want the horse-country side of the village can browse our equestrian homes hub. Those looking for the kind of house he actually flipped should look at pool homes across Palm Beach County. Saltwater pools and big patios are common there.

Sellers in Wellington have a strong hand right now. Inventory is moderate, and renovated homes on larger lots draw buyers from the equestrian crowd each winter. If you own one, the flip lesson still applies in reverse: finish the kitchen and the pool area before you list. Frequently asked questions

Where does Vanilla Ice live now?

Reporting places his base in Wellington, Florida, where he has lived since the mid-2000s. His long-time house there sold in 2020, and no outlet we reviewed has identified his current primary home. He also bought a home near St. Augustine in 2023 that he said he would keep.

Where in Wellington does Vanilla Ice live?

The house tied to him by property records was in a suburban single-family neighborhood in Wellington, not in the gated equestrian estates. We do not publish street addresses, and the home has since sold.

Where does Vanilla Ice live full time?

Palm Beach County has been his full-time home for two decades, based on the Chamber of Commerce award and later interviews. His other purchases, including the St. Augustine homes and earlier houses in Texas and Utah, were investments or seasonal homes.

How much did Vanilla Ice pay for his Wellington home?

Property records cited by Orlando Weekly show a purchase price of $716,695 in early 2005. It sold in late 2020 for about $770,000 to $800,000, depending on the report.

Does Vanilla Ice still own the Wellington home?

No. He transferred it to his former wife in 2019, and she sold it in December 2020 with his daughter as the listing agent.

Is Wellington a good place to buy and flip houses?

It has the housing stock for it, with many homes built between the 1980s and 2000s. Prices are much higher than in 2010, though, so the margins he found on foreclosures are harder to repeat today.
