Where Does Carlos Vives Live in Florida? His Key Biscayne Years and Colombian Base

September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

Carlos Vives is based in Colombia, moving between Bogota and his hometown of Santa Marta, but he spent years living on Key Biscayne, the island village south of Miami Beach. No purchase has been reported. This post lays out what is known, why Key Biscayne draws Colombian artists, and what island homes cost now.

Where does Carlos Vives live? Mostly in Colombia. The singer splits his time between Bogota, where his business and family life are centered, and Santa Marta, the Caribbean city where he was born. His Florida tie is Key Biscayne, the island village across the Rickenbacker Causeway from Miami. Local reporting says he lived there for years. No outlet has published a purchase or sale in his name. So this post is about what is reported, what is not, and why Key Biscayne keeps drawing Colombian musicians.

Key takeaways

  • Key Biscayne, Miami-Dade is the reported Florida home, per Key Biscayne Portal, a local outlet, which said he was a resident there for years.
  • No purchase price, year or building has been reported by a real estate outlet or in county records coverage.
  • Primary base is Colombia, between Bogota and Santa Marta, per 2024 coverage around his Latin Grammy Person of the Year award.
  • Key Biscayne median list price is about $2.5 million across roughly 180 listings, per our MLS feed as of September 2026.

Where does Carlos Vives live in Florida?

Key Biscayne, according to the one Florida source that has addressed it directly. In a 2013 piece, Key Biscayne Portal, the island's community news site, described Vives as a longtime resident of the village. It said he lived between Miami and Colombia. The same piece noted that Juanes, another Colombian star, had followed him to the island. That is the extent of the Florida record. We found nothing in The Real Deal, the Miami Herald or Mansion Global on a purchase, a sale or a building.

That silence is telling in a market where celebrity deals get covered fast. It most likely means one of three things. He rented, he bought through an entity that kept his name off the deed, or the home belonged to family. Any of the three would fit a touring artist who spends most of the year in Colombia. Pure Equity does not publish private addresses, and in this case there is none in the public record to withhold.

Key Biscayne is a small barrier island of about 12,000 residents with one road in and its own village government. Condo towers line the ocean side and single family streets face the bay. It has long been a favorite of Latin American families and artists. Our Key Biscayne page shows current inventory, and our South Florida celebrity roundup lists the other Colombian names in the county.

Inside the reported Key Biscayne home

There is no reported home to describe, and we will not invent one. What we can describe is the kind of property a resident like Vives would have chosen there in the 2000s and 2010s. Key Biscayne housing falls into three groups. Oceanfront towers along Crandon Boulevard and the Ocean Club offer full service condos with beach access. The bayside streets on the west of the island hold single family homes, many on canals. And the older garden apartments near the village center are the entry level.

For a musician who travels constantly, a condo in a full service building is the usual pick. It locks up, it has staff, and it needs no yard crew. Several Latin artists have owned in the Ocean Club and in the towers near the Ritz-Carlton. If Vives owned rather than rented, that is the most likely shape of it, but we have no reporting that says so.

Why Carlos Vives chose Key Biscayne

The reasons apply to the island, not just to him. Key Biscayne sits fifteen minutes from downtown Miami and twenty from the airport, yet it feels like a separate town. The population is heavily Latin American, with large Colombian, Venezuelan and Argentine communities. The schools, restaurants and church life reflect that. For a Colombian artist working in Miami's music industry in the 2000s, it was the neighborhood where home felt closest.

Vives also had reason to keep a Miami base. His run of vallenato pop albums from the mid 1990s onward went through Miami's Latin label offices. The Latin Grammys and Billboard Latin awards are Miami events too. His 2024 Person of the Year honor from the Latin Recording Academy was the capstone of that relationship. The island gave him a quiet place near all of it.

Timing matters too. Vives's biggest crossover years, from Clasicos de la Provincia in 1993 through El Amor de Mi Tierra in 1999, were also the years Miami became the Latin music capital. Sony and EMI built their Latin divisions there, and the Latin Grammys launched in 2000. An artist who wanted to be in the room had to be in Miami often. A Key Biscayne home was a short drive from the studios and offices, without the noise of South Beach.

Where else does Carlos Vives live?

Colombia is home, and it comes first. Coverage around the 2024 award described him living between Bogota and Santa Marta. Bogota holds his business interests, including the Gaira Cafe restaurant and music venue he co-founded with his brother. It is also where his children grew up. Santa Marta is the city of his birth and the subject of much of his music. His 2024 single with Luis Fonsi carries the city's name. He has put money into environmental and social projects there.

No home outside Colombia and Florida has been reported. In short, the honest answer is a Colombian primary residence with a long standing Miami connection that public records do not detail. That is a common pattern among Latin American artists of his generation, who came to Miami for the industry but never moved their lives there entirely.

What homes near Carlos Vives cost

Key Biscayne is one of the more expensive addresses in Miami-Dade. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 showed about 180 active listings there, a median list price near $2.5 million and an average of about 115 days on market. That median blends oceanfront condos with bayside houses. Full service condo units in the Ocean Club and similar buildings run from about $2 million to well past $10 million for the largest oceanfront residences.

Single family homes on the island's west side start in the low millions and rise sharply on the water, where canal front and open bay houses have sold in the teens of millions. Buyers comparing the island with the mainland often look at Coral Gables, at a median near $2 million, and Coconut Grove, at about $3.25 million. Our waterfront homes and condos hubs sort the island's two main property types.

For sellers, the Key Biscayne buyer pool is unusual: a large share comes from Latin America and buys with cash. Four months on market is the average, and well priced condos in full service buildings move faster than that. Sellers of bayside houses should expect a smaller pool of buyers and a longer wait. Most island shoppers want a lock and leave condo rather than a yard. The county picture is on our Miami-Dade County page.
