Where Does Fat Joe Live in Florida? The Plantation House and His Miami Years

September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

Fat Joe is a Bronx rapper who has spent much of the last two decades in South Florida. The one home reporting ties to him is a 5,342-square-foot house in west Plantation that he listed for about $2 million in 2010, telling Miami New Times his wife wanted to move closer to the beach. Where he landed after that is not clearly reported. Here is what is, plus what Plantation and the beach towns cost now.

Where does Fat Joe live? He splits time between the Bronx, where he was born and still keeps his base, and South Florida. He has spent much of the last twenty years here. The one Florida home in the public record is a 5,342-square-foot house in west Plantation, in Broward County. He listed it for $1,999,999 in 2010, per Miami New Times and AOL. He said his wife wanted to move closer to the beach. No outlet has confirmed where he bought next. Here is what is reported.

Key takeaways

  • Plantation, Broward County: a 5,342-square-foot house on the western edge of the city, listed in 2010, per Miami New Times.
  • Listed at $1,999,999: the purchase price and the eventual sale price were not reported.
  • Move toward the beach: he said the family wanted out of the western suburbs, but no Miami Beach purchase has been confirmed by a primary outlet.
  • Plantation median list price is about $375,000 across roughly 612 listings, per our MLS feed as of September 2026.

Where does Fat Joe live in Florida?

The confirmed answer is Plantation, at least as of 2010. Miami New Times reported that year that Joseph Cartagena, who is seen around Miami constantly, did not actually sleep in the 305. He lived on the western edge of Plantation, a Broward suburb about 30 minutes north of Miami. The paper ran the story under a headline quoting him on wanting to get out of west Broward. AOL carried the listing the same week.

Plantation is a mid-sized city west of Fort Lauderdale. It is known for big lots, mature trees and a cluster of gated golf communities on its western side. A lot of Miami entertainers of his era bought there in the 2000s. The beach was pricier then, and the suburbs offered more house per dollar. You can see current inventory on our Plantation page. The gated Hawks Landing community page shows the kind of enclave that dominates that side of town.

Pure Equity does not publish private addresses. The 2010 listing coverage named the street, and we leave it out.

Inside the reported Plantation home

The listing described a 5,342-square-foot house with the finishes celebrity-home coverage loves. There was a two-story living room, a home theater, a pool and a big open kitchen. Miami New Times put the asking price at $1,999,999. AOL rounded it to $1.9 million in its headline. Neither reported what he had paid for it, and we could not find a recorded purchase price in any primary outlet.

The sale outcome is also unreported. Property blogs have since published tours of the house as if he still owned it. That is a good example of how those sites recycle old listings. A 2010 listing does not tell you who lives there in 2026. We treat the house as a former home unless reporting says otherwise.

Fan sites and search results often mention a Miami Beach condo. We looked for it and found nothing from The Real Deal, the Miami Herald or the Sun Sentinel. There are music-video mansions in Coconut Grove tied to his name, per Profile Miami, but as a filming location, not a residence. So the Miami Beach condo stays a rumor here. If a deed turns up, we will add it.

Why Fat Joe chose South Florida

The reported reasons are work and weather. He came up in the Bronx in the early 1990s with the Diggin' in the Crates crew. Then he built Terror Squad, the label that made Big Pun a star. By the mid-2000s his sound had moved south. Miami producers and a young DJ Khaled were in his orbit, and hits like Make It Rain came out of that scene. Living near the studios and the clubs made sense.

He has said in interviews that he likes the calm of a suburban house after a Bronx childhood, and the 2010 story fits that. West Plantation was quiet, gated and a short drive to the airport. The complaint that year was not the house but the distance from the water. His wife, Lorena, wanted the beach, and he said so publicly.

What he never did was cut ties to New York. He has remained one of the Bronx's most visible figures, appears at borough events and describes himself as a New Yorker first. That is why the honest answer to the question has always been two cities.

The pattern is common among rappers of his generation. New York stays home for family and reputation, while Florida provides the studio time, the weather and, for many, a tax advantage. Rick Ross, DJ Khaled and Trick Daddy all built careers around Miami studios in the same years, and their homes sit in the same Broward and Miami-Dade suburbs he chose.

Where else does Fat Joe live?

The Bronx. He was born there in 1970 and grew up in the Forest Houses public housing complex. He has kept a home in New York throughout his career. A 2023 profile described him and his wife as living in the South Bronx. The likely pattern, based on what is public, is a New York base with long stretches in South Florida for work and winter.

No third city has been reported. Unlike several names in our South Florida celebrity roundup, there is no Los Angeles house or Atlanta estate in his record.

What homes near Fat Joe cost

Plantation is one of the more affordable cities in this series. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 shows about 612 active listings there, a median list price near $375,000 and an average of roughly 101 days on market. That median covers a lot of condos and older ranch houses in the east. The gated western communities, where the 2010 house sat, list from about $1 million up. A 5,000-square-foot estate there would ask well above his 2010 price today.

The beach he wanted is a different budget. Fort Lauderdale shows about 3,400 listings at a median near $679,000, per the same feed. Its barrier-island neighborhoods such as Harbor Beach run into the eight figures. Miami Beach lists at a median near $650,000 across roughly 2,500 units, most of them condos. Our beachfront homes hub and the Broward County page cover both ends of that range.

For sellers in west Plantation, the takeaway is that the gap between the suburbs and the beach has narrowed since 2010. A gated Plantation estate no longer sells at a steep discount to a coastal house of the same size. That is one reason fewer owners make the move he talked about.

Yes. Plantation is an open city with several gated communities on its western side, including golf-course enclaves. Most of the gated enclaves have their own HOA and guard gate, and several sit on golf courses, so check the fees before you compare prices with an open neighborhood.
