September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker
DJ Khaled lives on Pine Tree Drive in Miami Beach, in a waterfront estate he bought in 2018 for $21.75 million after it was listed at $25.9 million. This post covers the reported details of that home, the Aventura mansion he sold in 2020 and its wild ride since, and what waterfront homes in both cities cost now.
Where does DJ Khaled live? In Miami Beach, on Pine Tree Drive, in a waterfront estate on the Indian Creek Waterway. The Real Deal reported in late 2018 that he paid $21.75 million for it, after the seller had asked $25.9 million. Before that he lived in Aventura, in a home that later became famous for its sneaker closet. Here is what public reporting says about both houses, why he traded up, and what waterfront homes in the two cities cost today.
Key takeaways
- Miami Beach, Pine Tree Drive: a one-acre waterfront estate on the Indian Creek Waterway, near the La Gorce area.
- Bought for $21.75 million in 2018, per The Real Deal, against a $25.9 million ask reported by Forbes.
- About 13,000 square feet, five bedrooms, a four-bedroom guesthouse, an 80-foot pool and roughly 105 feet of water frontage.
- His old Aventura home sold for $4.8 million in 2020, was relisted at $16.39 million in 2024, and sold for $10 million in 2026, per the New York Post.
Where does DJ Khaled live in Florida?
Miami Beach. Pine Tree Drive runs along the Indian Creek Waterway on the bay side of the island, north of the Sunset Islands and just below the La Gorce golf course. Homes on the water side of the street back onto the creek, with docks and open views. It is one of the most expensive stretches of Miami Beach, and it draws buyers who want a house and a boat slip rather than a condo.
Do not confuse the waterway with the island. Indian Creek Village, where Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos bought, is a separate gated island a mile or so north. Khaled's home is on the Miami Beach mainland, on a public street. You can read about the island in our post on where Mark Zuckerberg lives.

Inside the reported Pine Tree Drive estate
The Real Deal broke the story in September 2018 under the headline Major key alert. Khaled was under contract on a home of nearly 13,000 square feet that had asked $25.9 million. Forbes and HousingWire ran the same figures. The lot is about one acre with roughly 105 feet on the water and a private dock.
The reported feature list is long. Five bedrooms in the main house, an elevator, a safe room, a two-level gazebo, a home theater, an outdoor shower and a fireplace. A separate four-bedroom guesthouse sits on the grounds, and the pool runs 80 feet. Khaled has called the place the Resort in his own posts.
The seller was Michael Lerner, the marketer who made the yellow Baby on Board signs a household item. Property records cited by The Real Deal show Lerner paid $4.95 million for the site in 2013 and built the current house. By December 2018 The Real Deal reported the deal had closed at $21.75 million, $4.15 million under the ask. That is a 16 percent discount on a trophy property, which tells you how much room there was in 2018 asking prices.
Why DJ Khaled chose Miami Beach
He was already local. Khaled built his career on Miami radio and in Miami studios, and his We The Best label is based in the area. The move from Aventura to Miami Beach was a trade-up within the same market, not a relocation. He bought the Aventura house in 2015, per Hypebeast, and three years later had the money and the family to want more space.
The Miami Beach house also gave him what the Aventura one could not: a full acre and a bigger waterfront. Aventura's Island Estates is a nice gated pocket, but a half-acre lot with a 50-foot dock is a different scale from an acre with 105 feet on the creek. So the reasons reported are the ordinary ones. More room, more water, same city.
Where does DJ Khaled live when not in Miami Beach?
Mostly on tour and in studios. We found no confirmed reporting of a second home he owns today, so we do not list one. His property trail in the press runs Aventura, then Miami Beach, and stops there.
The Aventura house, though, kept making news long after he left it. That story is worth its own section, because it is a lesson for anyone who owns a renovated home in a gated community.
What happened to the Aventura mansion
Hypebeast and Forbes reported that Khaled bought the Island Estates home in Aventura for $3.84 million in 2015. He then put about $2.5 million into it. The best-known upgrade was a 1,000-square-foot closet with floor-to-ceiling shelving for more than 500 pairs of sneakers and a We The Best logo. He also added a movie theater and rebuilt the main bedroom. The house has five bedrooms and seven baths on about half an acre with a 50-foot dock.
In December 2018, right after closing in Miami Beach, he listed it. Profile Miami reported the sale in July 2020 at $4.8 million, to music executives Nahim Jorge Bonilla and Melissa Granda. That is barely above his purchase price and well below what he had spent.
Then it went the other way. In March 2024 the new owners listed it at $16.39 million, per Forbes, with the sneaker closet still in place. And in March 2026 the New York Post reported it sold for $10 million, narrowly avoiding a foreclosure auction. From $4.8 million to a $16.39 million ask to a $10 million sale in six years is the whole South Florida cycle in one house.
What homes near DJ Khaled cost
Miami Beach carries about 2,500 active listings in our MLS feed as of September 2026. The median list price is near $650,000 and the average time on market is about 160 days. That median reflects a condo-heavy island. A waterfront house on Pine Tree Drive or in the La Gorce area sells at many times that figure, and one-acre lots are rare enough that they set their own prices.
Lerner's numbers show how that works. He paid $4.95 million for the site in 2013, per The Real Deal, and sold a finished house on it for $21.75 million five years later. The land was the entry ticket. The house, the dock and the frontage did the rest. If you own an older home on that shore, the lot alone may be worth more than you expect.
Aventura is cheaper on paper, with about 1,500 active listings and a median near $464,000, again mostly condos. Its gated waterfront pockets such as Island Estates are where the single-family money goes. Browse waterfront homes across the region, or start with all of Miami-Dade County.
