Where Does Rory McIlroy Live in Florida? Inside His Bear's Club Estate in Jupiter

September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

Rory McIlroy lives in the Bear's Club in Jupiter, Florida, in a home he bought from Ernie Els in 2017. Here is what is reported about the estate, his new home in England, and what houses near him sell for now.

Where does Rory McIlroy live? The Masters champion lives in the Bear's Club, a private golf community in Jupiter, Florida. He bought the estate from fellow pro Ernie Els in 2017 and moved in that August with his wife, Erica Stoll. Since 2025 the family has also spent time at a new home in Wentworth, England. Here is what public reporting says about both houses, the club, and the market around them.

Key takeaways

  • The Bear's Club in Jupiter has been his Florida base since August 2017, in a home that once belonged to Ernie Els.
  • Reports put the price at $11 million, though outlets disagree on the size, from about 9,000 to 17,000 square feet on 2.4 acres.
  • He sold his first Florida home, a Palm Beach Gardens waterfront house, for $11.5 million in 2018.
  • A second home in Wentworth, Surrey came to light in 2025, but reports say the family kept the Jupiter estate.

Where does Rory McIlroy live in Florida?

Rory McIlroy lives in Jupiter, a town at the north end of Palm Beach County. His community is the Bear's Club, the gated golf enclave that Jack and Barbara Nicklaus founded in 1999. The club sits on Donald Ross Road, a short drive from the beach and about 20 minutes from Palm Beach International Airport.

The Bear's Club is small by design. It holds a Nicklaus Signature course, a limited number of estate lots and a member roster that reads like a tour leaderboard. Reports have placed Michael Jordan, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Cantlay among the residents and members. Serena Williams and Celine Dion have also been tied to the club in press coverage over the years.

McIlroy arrived in Florida well before the Bear's Club. He first bought in Palm Beach Gardens around 2012, on the Intracoastal Waterway. Then in 2017 he moved a few miles north to Jupiter. Pure Equity does not publish private addresses, so we name the community and leave it there.

Inside the reported Bear's Club estate

The house has a golf pedigree of its own. Ernie Els built it and lived there before he sold it to McIlroy. CBS Sports reported the sale in 2018 and said the couple were still renovating the property at the time. Most outlets, including Bunkered and Golf News Net, put the price at $11 million.

The size is where the reporting gets messy. Golf News Net described a roughly 9,000-square-foot Spanish Colonial house with nine bedrooms and 10.5 bathrooms. Bunkered called it a 12,800-square-foot home with seven bedrooms and ten bathrooms on 2.4 acres. CBS Sports went higher still and said 17,000 square feet. We cannot square those figures from public records, so treat the true number as somewhere in that range.

The features draw less argument. Reports describe a guesthouse, a tennis court, a resort-style pool and spa, an outdoor kitchen, a home cinema, a game room and a recording studio. The Els family added the studio, and McIlroy kept it. Bunkered has since cited a value of about $18 million for the estate, but that is an estimate, not a sale.

The first Florida house tells a useful story about the local market. CBS Sports reported that McIlroy paid $9.5 million for a 2010-built home on 0.85 acres along the Intracoastal in Palm Beach Gardens, plus $2.25 million for the empty lot next door. He listed the pair at $12.9 million and sold in 2018 for $11.5 million. In other words, he took a small loss on paper after six years. Waterfront prices in the area have risen a great deal since then, so a similar sale today would likely look different.

Why Rory McIlroy chose Jupiter

The short answer is golf. Northern Palm Beach County holds more tour players per square mile than anywhere else in the world. The Bear's Club, the Medalist, Seminole, McArthur and Old Palm all sit within a 30-minute drive of each other. A player can practice on a Nicklaus course in the morning and fly out of Palm Beach that evening.

Weather matters too. The PGA Tour season opens in January, and a player who trains in Florida in December arrives sharp. McIlroy has said in interviews that he works with his coaches and trainers near home, and that the Bear's Club range is where much of that work happens.

There is also a Nicklaus connection. Jack Nicklaus built the club and still lives nearby in North Palm Beach. McIlroy, who chased the career Grand Slam that Nicklaus completed decades earlier, finished the job at Augusta in April 2025. He did much of the preparation for that Masters on the club's practice ground.

Where else does Rory McIlroy live?

McIlroy grew up in Holywood, County Down, near Belfast, and reports have long described a family home in that area. He returns to Northern Ireland for the Open and for family visits. But his second real base is now in England.

In April 2025 the golfer showed off a custom-built home on the Wentworth estate in Surrey, west of London. Yahoo Lifestyle reported that he quietly bought the property in 2023 and planned to spend more time there after the 2025 U.S. Open. Sportskeeda put the reported cost at about $18 million, a figure we could not confirm elsewhere. Wentworth is home to the BMW PGA Championship and sits close to Heathrow, which suits a player who competes on both sides of the Atlantic.

The important point for Florida readers is what he did not do. Yahoo reported that the family kept the Jupiter estate. As of this writing, no sale of the Bear's Club home has appeared in any outlet we track.

What homes near Rory McIlroy cost

The Bear's Club is the top of the Jupiter market. Estate homes there trade well into eight figures, and a $38.5 million listing made headlines in 2025. Resales are rare because there are so few homes. Our Bear's Club community page shows whatever is active on the MLS.

The wider town is more varied. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 shows about 730 active listings in Jupiter with a median list price near $875,000 and an average of about 116 days on market. That median covers everything from condos near the inlet to waterfront estates in Admirals Cove and golf homes at the Loxahatchee Club.

Next door, Palm Beach Gardens shows about 760 active listings at a median near $898,000. Golf buyers who want the same lifestyle at a lower entry point often start there or in Tequesta. For the full picture, see our golf and country club homes hub and the Palm Beach County page.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Rory McIlroy live now?

He splits time between the Bear's Club in Jupiter, Florida, and a home on the Wentworth estate in Surrey, England. The Jupiter estate has been his base since 2017. The Wentworth home became public in 2025.

Where in Jupiter does Rory McIlroy live?

He lives inside the Bear's Club, the private golf community on the west side of town that Jack Nicklaus founded. The club has a gate and does not allow public access. We do not publish the street.

Where does Rory McIlroy live full time?

Reports in 2025 said he planned to spend more of the year in England, so the answer is no longer simple. Even so, the Jupiter home remains in the family and stays close to his coaches and to the Florida swing of the tour. Where does Rory McIlroy live for tax or residency purposes has not been reported, and we do not guess.

How much did Rory McIlroy pay for the Jupiter home?

Reports put the price at $11 million, paid to Ernie Els in 2017. The house was not listed on the open market, so the figure comes from press coverage rather than a listing record. Bunkered later cited an estimated value near $18 million.

Can you buy a home in the Bear's Club?

Yes, when a home comes up. The club is private and membership is by invitation, but homes do sell. Recent asks have ranged from the high single-digit millions to $38.5 million, so it is among the priciest addresses in northern Palm Beach County.

Does Rory McIlroy still own the Jupiter home?

As far as public reporting shows, yes. Coverage of the 2025 move to England said the family would keep the Florida estate, and no sale has been reported since.
