Jason Derulo grew up in Miramar and owned a seven-bedroom estate in Coconut Creek, complete with a mirrored dance studio, until he sold it in 2016 for $1.9 million. He lives in Los Angeles now. Here is what The Real Deal and the Wall Street Journal reported about the house and what western Broward estates cost today.
Where does Jason Derulo live? He lives in Los Angeles now, but he is a South Florida product through and through. The singer grew up in Miramar, in southwest Broward County, and as a young star he bought a seven-bedroom estate on two and a half acres in Coconut Creek. The Real Deal reported he sold it in 2016 for $1.9 million after moving to California. Here is what reporting says about the house, why he left, and what estates in western Broward cost today.
Key takeaways
- Coconut Creek, Broward County: a seven-bedroom, nine-bath estate on about 2.5 acres, bought in 2012 for $1.75 million, per The Real Deal.
- Sold in November 2016 for $1.9 million, after a 2015 listing at $2.9 million that the Wall Street Journal first reported.
- A mirrored dance studio, a guesthouse turned recording studio, a gym and a pool with a waterfall were his additions.
- Parkland median list price is about $1.25 million across roughly 220 active listings, per our MLS feed as of September 2026, for the nearest estate market in our feed.
Where does Jason Derulo live in Florida?
He no longer owns a Florida home, as far as public reporting shows. But two Broward County towns tell his story. The first is Miramar, where he was born Jason Desrouleaux to Haitian parents and grew up. It is a large suburb west of Hollywood and south of Pembroke Pines, full of 1990s and 2000s subdivisions. Derulo has said in interviews that he wrote songs there as a teenager before leaving for New York and Los Angeles.
The second is Coconut Creek, about half an hour north near the Palm Beach County line. Once his career took off, he bought an estate there in 2012. The Real Deal covered both the 2015 listing and the 2016 sale. Pure Equity does not publish private addresses, so we name the towns only. You can see current inventory in his hometown on our Miramar page.
Coconut Creek is an unusual choice for a pop star. It has no beach and no nightlife. What it has, in a few pockets, is acreage: old plant-nursery and ranch land that became estate lots. That is what he bought.
Inside the reported Coconut Creek estate
The Real Deal reported that Derulo paid $1.75 million for the property in 2012. Construction dates to 2010. In the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the 2015 listing, the description ran to a 13,000-square-foot main house with seven bedrooms, an office and a game room, plus a guesthouse and a pool with a waterfall. The Real Deal's 2016 story put the living area at more than 11,500 square feet, which likely excludes the guesthouse.
His changes are the memorable part. Per the Journal, he installed marble floors and a full gym, turned the guesthouse into a recording studio, and converted one bedroom into a mirrored dance studio. For a performer known for choreography, the dance studio was the headline in every story about the sale.
He listed the estate in June 2015 at $2.9 million. It did not move at that price. In November 2016 The Real Deal reported a sale at $1.9 million, about $1 million under the ask but still $150,000 over what he paid four years earlier. After the cost of the studio, the gym and the marble, it was likely a break-even deal at best.
Why Derulo left Coconut Creek
The reason is on the record. When he listed the estate, he told the Wall Street Journal that he had just bought a castle of a house in Tarzana, in the San Fernando Valley, for $3.5 million and planned to move there. His career had shifted to Los Angeles, where his label, his collaborators and the television work that followed were based.
That is the common path for South Florida musicians. The region is a strong base for Latin and hip-hop artists, but a pop singer working with mainstream producers tends to end up in Los Angeles. Derulo made the move in his mid-twenties, at the peak of his radio run.
He has kept his Florida ties in public. He returns to Miramar for community events and has talked about his parents and the city in interviews. But the tie is family and memory now, not property.
What Miramar means in his story
Miramar deserves its own note, because it is the place most searches are really asking about. The city sits along the Miami-Dade line, and much of it was farmland into the 1990s. Then builders filled it with gated subdivisions, lakes and new schools. Families from Miami moved north for space, and Haitian and Caribbean families in particular made it a hub. Derulo grew up in that version of Miramar.
The city has honored him more than once, and he has returned for youth events and holiday giveaways. So while he owns nothing there that reporting shows, the connection is real and public. For a reader who owns in Miramar, that matters less than the market. Homes there sell on schools, lot size and commute, not on which pop star grew up two streets over.
Where else does Jason Derulo live?
Los Angeles is home. The Tarzana house he described in 2015 was the first stop. Celebrity-home trackers have since reported him in larger San Fernando Valley estates, and he has shown parts of a big house with a pool and a gym on social media. We could not confirm the current address or price with a major outlet, so treat the specifics as unverified.
What is clear is that the Florida chapter closed in 2016. We found no reporting of a later purchase in Miami, Broward or Palm Beach County. If he buys again in South Florida, it will likely show up in The Real Deal within days, as his last two deals did.
What homes near Jason Derulo's old home cost
Coconut Creek is not in our current feed, so the closest comparison is the estate market around it. Parkland, just to the north, carries a median list price near $1.25 million across about 220 listings, with homes averaging about 75 days on market. That is the fastest-moving town in this part of Broward, driven by gated communities and top-rated schools.
His hometown is a different tier. Miramar is a large suburb where most homes sit between $400,000 and $800,000, and the 2.5-acre estates that Derulo bought in Coconut Creek are rare there. For big lots in the region, see our homes with acreage hub.
For a sense of what $1.9 million buys in 2026, look at Weston, where the median sits near $750,000, or Plantation at about $375,000. An 11,500-square-foot house on acreage in either town would list well above Derulo's 2016 sale price today. For the county picture, see our Broward County page.
Owners of estate homes in western Broward should note what his sale shows. Custom features like a dance studio or a recording studio rarely return their cost. Buyers pay for the lot, the square footage and the pool. The studio is a story, not a line item.
