Where Does Uncle Luke Live in Florida? Liberty City Roots and a Miramar Home

September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker

Luther Campbell, the 2 Live Crew founder known as Uncle Luke, has never left South Florida. He grew up in Liberty City, built his label in Miami and, per the Miami Herald, has lived in Miramar in Broward County for most of his adult voting life. No outlet has reported a house purchase. Here is what is public, and what homes in Miramar and Liberty City cost now.

Where does Uncle Luke live? In Miramar, a suburb in southwest Broward County, according to the Miami Herald. Luther Campbell founded 2 Live Crew and grew up in Liberty City. He has stayed within a half hour of it ever since. No outlet has reported the house he owns, and he has not talked about it publicly. What is reported is his Broward residency, his Liberty City ties and his 2026 run for Congress. Here is the record.

Key takeaways

  • Miramar, Broward County: the Miami Herald reported in 2024 that he has lived there for most of the time since registering to vote in Broward.
  • Price not reported: no purchase, sale or property description has appeared in the press.
  • Liberty City is home base: he was born and raised there, founded the Liberty City Optimists youth program, and a street was renamed for him in 2024.
  • Hollywood, next door to Miramar, lists at a median of about $500,000 across roughly 2,200 homes, per our MLS feed as of September 2026.

Where does Uncle Luke live in Florida?

Miramar, per the Miami Herald. The paper looked at his residency in April 2024, when he first floated a run for Congress. It reported that he has lived in Miramar for most of the time since he registered to vote in Broward County. That detail came back into the news in February 2026. CBS12 and Local 10 covered his primary challenge in Florida's 20th District, which spans Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Miramar is a large, mostly residential city of about 140,000 people between the Florida Turnpike and the Everglades, south of Pembroke Pines and north of the Miami-Dade line. It grew fast in the 1990s and 2000s with gated subdivisions of single-family homes. It also has one of the largest Caribbean-American populations in the state. For a man whose life has been in Liberty City, it is a 25-minute drive north. You can see current inventory on our Miramar page.

Pure Equity does not publish private addresses. In this case there is no address to withhold; reporting stops at the city.

Inside the reported home, and what is not reported

Here is the honest gap. Unlike most names in our South Florida celebrity roundup, Campbell has no purchase in The Real Deal, no mansion tour and no listing. He came up in the 1980s and 1990s, before celebrity real estate became a beat, and his money went into a record label rather than trophy homes. A 1990s bankruptcy after the label's legal fights is a matter of public record. He rebuilt afterward as a coach, columnist and radio host, not as a buyer of waterfront estates.

What reporting does describe is the life around the house. Vice profiled his Miami in 2018 and found him at his wife's two Wingstop restaurants, one in North Miami Beach and one in Miramar. His wife, Kristin Thompson, is an attorney. His youth program, the Liberty City Optimists, has run for more than 25 years. By his count it has sent more players to the NFL than any other youth league in the country.

So the picture is a family home in a Miramar subdivision, unnamed and unpriced, with a business a few minutes away. That is all the public record supports, and we are not going to add to it. Readers who want a named house will find one in almost every other post in this series. This one is about a man who put his money into a neighborhood instead, and the market around that neighborhood is still worth knowing.

Why Uncle Luke stays in South Florida

Because he has never wanted to be anywhere else, and he says so often. He was born in Miami in 1960 and raised in Liberty City, the neighborhood north of downtown that anchored Black Miami for most of the twentieth century. 2 Live Crew formed there, and the 1990 obscenity fight over the group's album made him a First Amendment figure whose case reached a federal appeals court.

After the music, he stayed and coached. He spent years as an assistant and head coach at Miami public high schools. Local 10 reported in January 2026 that he had left his latest coaching job ahead of the congressional run. He writes a column for Miami New Times. In 2018 the City of Miami gave him a key to the city. In 2024 NBC Miami reported that a stretch of Northwest 11th Avenue in Liberty City had been renamed Luther Campbell Way.

The Vice profile caught the point. He told the magazine that Miami had changed from a mostly Black city to a mostly Hispanic one in his lifetime. And he wanted visitors to see the neighborhoods that built it. In that sense he is a resident of the whole county, not one house.

Where does Uncle Luke live when not in Miramar?

There is no reported second home. His work has always been local: the label was in Miami, the coaching was in Miami-Dade public schools, the radio and column work is in Miami. The 2026 campaign put him at Broward and Palm Beach county events most weeks, but that is a district, not a residence. Even the campaign was a short drive from home. If he owns property anywhere else, it has not been reported, and we found nothing to suggest it.

What homes near Uncle Luke cost

Miramar is not in our September 2026 rollup table, so the closest published numbers are its neighbors. Hollywood, directly east, shows about 2,200 active listings at a median list price near $500,000 and about 150 days on market, per our MLS feed. Davie, to the north, lists around 610 homes at a median near $370,000. Miramar's gated single-family subdivisions generally price between those two, with the newer western neighborhoods at the top.

Liberty City is a different market. It sits inside the City of Miami, where the feed shows about 11,300 listings and a median near $639,000. Downtown condos and the bayfront pull that median up. Liberty City homes trade well below it, and the neighborhood has drawn investor interest as prices elsewhere in the city climbed. The Miami page carries the city-wide inventory.

For sellers in southwest Broward, the takeaway is that Miramar has been a steady market rather than a spiky one. It did not see the 2021 island-style run-up, so it has not given much back either. Our Broward County page and the gated communities hub cover the subdivisions most buyers ask about. The Southwest Ranches page shows the acreage market just to the north, where the median is near $2.9 million.
