Where Does Alejandro Sanz Live in Florida? The Miami Beach Estate He Sold
September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker
Alejandro Sanz owned a bayfront estate in Miami Beach for almost twenty years, then sold it to nightlife owner David Grutman in late 2020. His main home is now outside Madrid. This post covers the Miami house he had, what it sold for, where he stays when he is back in town, and what bayfront Miami Beach costs now.
Where does Alejandro Sanz live? Not in Florida anymore. The Spanish singer owned a waterfront estate in Miami Beach from 2001 until late 2020, when he sold it to hospitality owner David Grutman. His main home today is in Somosaguas, a suburb west of Madrid. He still comes to Miami often for work, and reports say he stays at a friend's house on the water when he does. Here is what was reported about the home he had and where he went.
Key takeaways
- Sold in late 2020: The Real Deal reported David Grutman closed on the Miami Beach estate for about $10.3 million, well under the $18 million first asking price.
- Bought in 2001 for about $4.8 million: Sanz owned the bayfront house for almost two decades.
- A 1933 house of about 7,600 square feet with a tennis court, gym, guest house, recording studio and dock, per reports.
- Miami Beach median list price is about $650,000 across roughly 2,500 listings, per our MLS feed as of September 2026; bayfront houses run far higher.
Where does Alejandro Sanz live in Florida?
He does not have a Florida home today, as far as public reporting shows. But for nineteen years he did, and it was one of the better-known celebrity houses in Miami Beach. The estate sat on the bay side of the island along North Bay Road, the strip of waterfront that has drawn musicians and executives for decades. The Real Deal reported that Sanz bought it in 2001 for about $4.8 million.
Miami Beach is part of Miami-Dade County. The bayfront lots there face Biscayne Bay rather than the ocean, which means calmer water, a dock and a view of the downtown skyline at night. That is the setup Sanz had. The house was a 1933 build that later owners had expanded, according to The Real Deal.
Pure Equity does not publish private addresses, so we describe the home by its neighborhood only. Since Grutman planned to tear it down and build new, the house Sanz owned may no longer exist in the form the press described.
Inside the reported Miami Beach estate
The Real Deal described the property as a roughly 7,600-square-foot main house with a tennis court, gym, guest house and recording studio. La Nacion counted nine bedrooms across the property and added two docks and a heated pool. Those two descriptions likely cover the main house and guest house together, which is why the bedroom count looks high for the square footage.
The sale took a long time. Sanz first listed the estate at $18 million, per La Nacion. It sat, and the price came down in steps. Marie Claire's Spanish edition reported the eventual sale at a marked discount. The Real Deal put the closing figure at about $10.3 million in November 2020, and La Nacion reported $10.2 million. So the range is $10.2 million to $10.3 million, roughly double what he paid in 2001 but well short of the ask.
The buyer, David Grutman, runs LIV, Story, Komodo and other Miami venues. Idealista reported that he planned to knock the old house down and build a new mansion on the lot. That is common on North Bay Road. Buyers pay for the bay frontage and the lot, not the 1930s house sitting on it.
The house also had a history before Sanz. A 1933 build on North Bay Road puts it among the older homes on the island, from the era when Miami Beach was first laid out as a winter resort. Most of its neighbors from that decade have since come down, and the Grutman plan suggests this one has too.
The recording studio was the personal touch. Like many Latin artists who settled in Miami, Sanz built a place to work at home. His current Madrid house has a studio as well, per La Nacion, so the pattern followed him back to Spain.
Why Alejandro Sanz chose Miami
Sanz bought in 2001, right as his career went global. His album Mas had already made him the biggest Spanish-language artist in Spain, and Miami is where the Latin music business sits. The labels, the producers and the awards shows are here. A base in Miami Beach put him a short flight from Mexico, South America and New York, and a direct flight from Madrid.
He also married and started a family here. His long relationship with Miami is why he still visits so often. Even after selling, the city stayed part of his schedule. He records, does press and plays shows here, and Latin Grammy week usually brings him back to town.
Why did he sell? No outlet we found quotes him on the reason, and we will not guess. The listing came in the years after his divorce from Raquel Perera, which was widely reported, and the sale closed during the 2020 pandemic when many owners of large second homes cashed out. Beyond that, we can only note what happened, not why.
Where else does Alejandro Sanz live?
His main home is in Somosaguas, a wealthy area in Pozuelo de Alarcon just west of Madrid. La Nacion valued that property at about 8.5 million euros, or roughly $9.7 million, and described a private recording studio, gym, garden and pool. That is where he lives full time with his partner, Candela Marquez.
When he is in Miami, reports say he stays at a Miami Beach home owned by his close friend Loren Ridinger, the entrepreneur and author. La Nacion described that house as having an infinity pool, a dock, a tennis court and beach access. So his Florida footprint now is a guest room at a friend's estate rather than a deed in his own name.
That is a different pattern from most of the Latin stars covered on this site. Juanes has held one Key Biscayne house since 2004. Shakira kept a Miami Beach home while living in Barcelona. Sanz went the other way, from a Miami base back to Spain.
What homes near the old Sanz estate cost
Miami Beach is a big, mixed market. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 shows about 2,500 active listings with a median list price of about $650,000 and an average of around 160 days on market. That median is mostly condos. Bayfront single-family homes on North Bay Road and the nearby islands trade in the tens of millions, and teardown lots on the water are priced by frontage.
For comparison, the median across the City of Miami is about $639,000 on more than 11,000 listings, so the two markets look alike on paper and very different on the water. Buyers looking for the bayfront setup Sanz had usually search three places: the Sunset Islands, La Gorce and the North Bay Road corridor.
Owners of bayfront homes in Miami Beach should note what the Sanz sale showed: a 1930s house on a great lot sells for the lot. Pricing it as a finished home invites the kind of long listing he went through. Our waterfront homes and luxury homes pages track what is currently listed.
