Where Does Alex Rodriguez Live in Florida? His Coral Gables Home and Miami Deals
September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker
Alex Rodriguez lives in Coral Gables, in an 11,000 square foot home he built on a lot his sister found in 2013. He has also bought and sold on Star Island and in Bay Point, often within a year or two. This post covers the Coral Gables house, the Miami deals around it, and what homes nearby cost today.
Where does Alex Rodriguez live? In Coral Gables, the leafy city south of downtown Miami, in a modern home he built on a lot of about an acre and a half. That house has been his base since the mid 2010s. Around it he has run a string of Miami deals. There was a Star Island mansion bought with Jennifer Lopez in 2020, a Star Island lot he sold back to Ken Griffin in 2023, and a Bay Point house he flipped in under a year. Here is what public reporting says about each.
Key takeaways
- Coral Gables is the primary home: an 11,000 square foot house built on a 1.5 acre lot he bought in 2013, per Architectural Digest and Florida Design.
- Bought a Star Island mansion for $32.5 million in 2020 with Jennifer Lopez, The Real Deal reported, off a $40 million ask.
- Sold a Star Island lot to Ken Griffin for $45.5 million in 2023, and flipped a Bay Point house from $5.5 million to $6.3 million in 2021 to 2022.
- Coral Gables median list price is about $2 million across roughly 440 listings, per our MLS feed as of September 2026.
Where does Alex Rodriguez live in Florida?
Coral Gables. Rodriguez grew up in Miami, played high school ball at Westminster Christian, and came back to the area after his playing career ended in 2016. The city he chose is the one many Miami natives choose when they have money. Coral Gables has canopy streets, a Mediterranean zoning code and big lots south of the University of Miami. Pure Equity does not publish private addresses, so we name the city and nothing more.
The house is not a resale. Architectural Digest reported that a tip from his sister, a real estate agent, led him to a quiet lot in Coral Gables. He bought the parcel, about an acre and a half, in 2013. He then hired architects Ralph Choeff and Paul Fischman of Choeff Levy Fischman to design a house from scratch. Briggs Edward Solomon did the interiors. Construction took about a year.
Coral Gables has become a quiet magnet for athletes and entertainers who want space without a gate. Our post on where Marc Anthony lives covers another one. For the wider list, see our South Florida celebrity roundup, and for inventory see our Coral Gables page.
Inside the reported Coral Gables home
Florida Design and Architectural Digest both described the home as tropical modern. It runs about 11,000 square feet on one level. Long roof overhangs, glass walls and a design that nods to midcentury modernism define it. The lot gives it room for a pool and lawns on all sides, which is rare that close to downtown Miami. The purchase price of the lot and the cost of construction were not reported.
This is his second Coral Gables home. Miami New Times reported in 2016 that he had cut the ask on an earlier Coral Gables mansion from $14.9 million to $9.9 million. He had paid $12 million for that house in 2004, during his Texas Rangers and early Yankees years. So the pattern goes back two decades: buy in the Gables, hold, then move on.
Neighbors in that part of the city are mostly on big lots in and around the older estate sections. Communities like Cocoplum and Gables Estates offer gates and canal frontage a few minutes south, and they set the top of the market for the city.
Why Alex Rodriguez chose Coral Gables
The first reason is home. He spent his childhood in Miami and his mother and siblings stayed in the area. The second is business. Since retiring he has run A-Rod Corp from Miami and built a real estate portfolio of apartment units. He has also taken a controlling role in the Minnesota Timberwolves. Miami is a short flight to New York for his broadcast work and a hub for his Latin American investments.
Coral Gables in particular suits someone who wants a large private house without living behind a guard gate. The city's building code keeps street scenes calm, the lots south of Coral Way are large, and the schools are close. It is also a ten minute drive to Brickell and a twenty minute drive to the airport. In short, it is where a Miami kid with means tends to land.
Where else does Alex Rodriguez live?
No outlet we found reports a current home outside Florida. What the record shows instead is a run of Miami purchases that came and went. The largest was on Star Island. In August 2020 The Real Deal reported that Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez closed on a ten bedroom waterfront mansion there. They paid $32.5 million, off a $40 million ask. The house had 100 feet of frontage, a dock, a pool and a wine room. After the couple split in 2021, Fox Business reported that one of them would have to give up the home. We did not find a clear report of who kept it or whether it sold, so we leave that open.
The second Star Island deal is stranger. Rodriguez bought a nearly one acre lot on the island from an entity tied to Ken Griffin and announced plans for a 20,000 square foot house. In October 2023 The Real Deal reported that he sold the lot back to Griffin for $45.5 million. The house never went up.
The third deal was small and fast. In April 2021 he bought a four bedroom 1962 house in Bay Point, the gated enclave off Biscayne Boulevard, for $5.5 million, South Florida Agent Magazine reported. He listed it at $8.5 million within weeks. In January 2022 it sold for $6.3 million to buyers who planned a spec home on the lot. Add it up and the Coral Gables house is the constant while everything else has been a trade.
What homes near Alex Rodriguez cost
Coral Gables is one of the pricier cities in Miami-Dade. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 showed about 440 active listings there, a median list price near $2 million and an average of about 132 days on market. Homes on lots of an acre or more, like his, sit far above that median and rarely list.
The gated waterfront sections are the ceiling. Gables Estates and Cocoplum have seen sales in the tens of millions in recent years. Buyers who want the same lot size with a lower entry point often look at Pinecrest to the south. Our feed showed a median near $5.1 million there, but with a wider range of older homes. Our luxury homes and gated communities hubs sort the options.
For sellers, the Gables market rewards patience and preparation. Four months on market is the average, and a big lot with an older house often sells on land value alone, as the Bay Point flip showed. Countywide numbers are on our Miami-Dade County page.
