Where Does Iggy Pop Live in Florida? Inside His Coconut Grove Home
September 21, 2026 · 8 min read · By Onias Derilus, Broker
Iggy Pop has lived in Florida since 1991 and in Miami since the late 1990s, longer than almost any rock star of his rank. Reporting puts him in a gated Coconut Grove home bought for $4.1 million in 2016, after twelve years on an acre in Palmetto Bay. Here is what is public about both houses, why he left New York, and what the Grove costs now.
Where does Iggy Pop live? In Coconut Grove, the old bayside neighborhood on the south edge of Miami. The Real Deal reported in 2018 that he had bought a five-bedroom house in a gated Grove enclave for $4.1 million in 2016 and signed it over to his wife, Nina Alu. Before that he spent twelve years on an acre in Palmetto Bay. He has lived in Florida since 1991, which makes him one of the longest-tenured famous residents in the state. Here is what is reported.
Key takeaways
- Coconut Grove, Miami: a gated-community house he bought in 2016 and later deeded to his wife, per The Real Deal.
- $4.1 million in 2016: about 5,252 square feet, five bedrooms and five baths, per The Blast.
- Palmetto Bay before that: bought for $1.46 million in 2006, sold for $1.225 million in June 2018, a loss.
- Coconut Grove median list price is about $3.25 million across roughly 57 listings, per our MLS feed as of September 2026.
Where does Iggy Pop live in Florida?
Coconut Grove. It is the oldest settled part of Miami, a few miles south of downtown, with big trees, a bayfront park and a village center of restaurants and shops. The Face described his home there in 2019 as a leafy, upscale neighborhood, and added that he keeps a separate place on a river nearby where he paints. He has said in interviews that he likes to swim and walk in the Grove, and he is often photographed doing both.
His Florida story starts earlier. Men's Journal reported in 2014 that he had lived in the state since 1991 and moved to Miami by the late 1990s. His first years were in Miami Beach, and in 2006 he bought a house on more than an acre in Palmetto Bay, a village about ten miles south of the Grove. He kept it until 2018. You can see current inventory on our Coconut Grove and Palmetto Bay pages.
Pure Equity does not publish private addresses. The 2018 reporting named the streets of both houses, and we leave them out.
Inside the reported Coconut Grove home
The Real Deal broke the details in September 2018. Pop had paid $4.1 million in 2016 for a house inside a gated community in Coconut Grove, and that month he transferred the title to Nina Alu, whom he married in 2008. The Blast put the house at 5,252 square feet with five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Neither outlet named the community, and we could not confirm it from a primary source, so we do not either.
The Palmetto Bay house was the bigger property. Per The Blast, it had 5,356 square feet on a lot of more than an acre, with a tennis court, a pool and spa, a waterfall, an aviary, a library and a wine cellar. He bought it for $1.46 million in 2006 and sold it for $1.225 million in June 2018, per The Real Deal. That is a loss of about $235,000 over twelve years, before costs, in a period when most of Miami-Dade rose sharply. Large inland lots in the south county simply did not appreciate the way waterfront did.
The 2018 sequence tells a clean story. He moved north to the Grove in 2016, held both houses for two years, then sold the older one and put the new one in his wife's name.
Why Iggy Pop chose Miami
He has explained it more than once, and bluntly. In a 2008 CNN interview he said he had spent 25 years in huge, dark, media-centric cities and wanted something like an elegant coma, with peace and convenience. Men's Journal quoted him on New York's buildings and people in harsher terms. He had also tried living in Mexico and left when he began to worry about kidnapping.
Miami gave him warm water, cheap flights and anonymity of a kind. In 2009 he took CNN on a tour of the city and spent most of it in Little Haiti, which he called a great place to unwind. Anthony Bourdain later filmed a Miami episode with him, swimming and eating in the Grove. The picture that comes through is a man who wanted to be left alone near the ocean, and found it.
None of that is unusual for Miami buyers. What is unusual is the length of stay. Most musicians who buy in South Florida sell within a decade. He has been here more than thirty years and has moved only a few miles at a time.
Where else does Iggy Pop live?
Nowhere that has been reported. There is no New York apartment or Los Angeles house in the public record. He tours from Miami, records in studios elsewhere when needed, and comes back. The Face noted the river studio near his home, which appears to be his only other regular base. So unlike most names in our South Florida celebrity roundup, the Miami house is not a second home. It is the only one.
His roots are in Michigan, where he grew up in a trailer park outside Ann Arbor and formed the Stooges in 1967. He has said he goes back for shows and family, but no reporting places a house there. New York was home for the 1970s and 1980s, and he has been clear that he does not miss it. The pattern since 1991 has been one state and, since the late 1990s, one city.
What homes near Iggy Pop cost
Coconut Grove is a small, expensive market. Our MLS feed as of September 2026 shows about 57 active listings there, a median list price near $3.25 million and an average of about 132 days on market. Gated pockets in the south Grove, where reporting places his house, sit above that median. A 5,000-square-foot house on a large lot there would list well past his 2016 price today.
Palmetto Bay is the value play he left behind. The same feed shows about 134 listings at a median near $1.36 million and roughly 100 days on market. Acre lots with pools and tennis courts still trade there for a fraction of Grove prices, which is why families keep choosing it. If you want the gate without the Grove premium, our gated communities hub lists options across the county, and the Miami-Dade County page covers the wider market. Pool homes are the most common request from buyers looking at either area.
For sellers, his Palmetto Bay result is worth studying. A large, well-equipped house on an acre still lost value over twelve years because the location did not reprice. Buyers in south Miami-Dade pay for water and for the Grove's walkable center, and an inland acre competes with new construction farther south. Pricing to the lot, not the wine cellar, is what moves those homes.
